Native Events: Culture of Sustainability Ep 2

A virtual visit to Cloughjordan Community Farm for all the family to enjoy

As we celebrate Ireland and all things Irish across this very special week, a virtual visit to Cloughjordan Community Farm gives us the opportunity to celebrate a fantastic initiative on a journey to a low carbon community that is modeling how we all might eat in the future and to see what’s possible, right now in the present moment, when a community comes together to improve food security and live in a more sustainable, holistic way.

Our aim with this programme piece is to inspire audiences to move on from environmental awareness-raising and simply talking about the combined challenges we face, towards collective and effective action!

The Farm is a community-led social enterprise based in Cloughjordan Ecovillage. It is Ireland's largest example of community supported agriculture. ensuring food security locally, while demonstrating a viable model for small-scale community supported food production nationally.

This enterprise is currently working on an Open Food Hub - providing sustainable routes to market for small producers through a virtual marketplace, and providing digital training and mentoring to farmers, producers and other food hubs across Ireland.

The Farm’s Food Hub is based in WeCreate, the green innovation and social enterprise centre at Cloughjordan. Training takes place in the digital studio and classrooms and food is distributed from here to the local area.

The community also has access to prototyping technologies and computer controlled cutting, milling and 3D printing machines in Ireland’s first Community FabLab.
